An artist who wears many hats, including silly ones.
I am a theater-maker and multidisciplinary artist, working as a director, puppet designer, devisor, educator, clown, and playwright. Some of the work I am most proud of is community devised work, where actors and non actors alike have collaborated to create amazing theater. Aesthetically, I love working with spectacle, surrealism, puppetry, and movement. First and foremost, I am a collaborator, and I see the director’s primary job as being a kind, supportive, community builder and midwife to a work and an ensemble rather than someone who imposes a vision upon a group of actors. I love not having the answers, but asking the questions to guide a room towards collective discovery. This extends to my work as an educator with Chicago Children’s Theatre, and stems from my background in Theatre of the Oppressed.
I have worked in theatres all across the city including Chicago Children’s Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, The Neo-Futurists, Chicago International Puppet Festival, and Pride Arts. Currently, my interests are new work development and immersive, site-specific theatre.
